The bonnet scoop
The quickest tell is the bonnet: the Veloce wears a raised scoop to clear its taller twin-Weber induction, while the Normale has a flush bonnet. That scoop is the classic at-a-glance identifier.
Under the bonnet
The Normale runs a single carburettor (around 92 bhp); the Veloce runs twin Weber carburettors and hotter cams (around 112 bhp). The induction is the definitive mechanical difference between them.
The type numbers
Confirm against the numbers: the Veloce is type 101.18, while the Normale is 101.23 (LHD) / 101.19 (RHD). Numbers that don't match the bodywork and induction are a flag worth investigating.
Why it matters
The Veloce is faster, was built in smaller numbers, and commands a premium over the Normale. Because the visual differences are subtle, it is worth confirming a car really is the version it is sold as — the scoop, the twin Webers *and* the right type number, not just one of the three.
