The Giulia Spider rides on 15-inch wheels wearing tall, narrow tyres — and getting the size and type right matters both for how the car drives and for keeping it correct.
The original fitment
These cars ran 15-inch wheels with 155 R15 tyres (originally a 155 HR 15, such as the Pirelli Cinturato), on tube-type wheels with innertubes as standard. Steel wheels were standard; Borrani wire wheels were a period option, and a desirable one.
Tyres today
The correct modern choice is a 155 R15 in a good classic pattern — the Pirelli Cinturato remains a natural fit. Because the original wheels are tube-type, they need innertubes with these tyres. Some owners fit wider, lower-profile rubber — the low-profile equivalent of 155 R15 is roughly 175/70 R15 — but staying with the original size preserves the correct look, ride and steering feel; oversized tyres tend to dull them.
Pressures and condition
Pressures are modest — figures of around 25 psi front and 26 psi rear are typical for the Spider, but confirm the right ones for your car. Whatever the tread depth, check the age of the tyres: rubber hardens and cracks with time, and old tyres are unsafe regardless of how much tread remains — a common trap on low-mileage classics.
What to check when buying
Confirm the wheels are straight and true, that the tyres are a sensible size and not perished, and that there is a usable spare. Wire wheels need their spokes and splines checked, as they can loosen and buckle.
